DiPlayIndependent community project
PUBLIC PREVIEW · 0.2.14

Your iPhone.
At home in your car.

Maps, music and conversations on your car display. DiPlay brings wired and wireless CarPlay to compatible Android head units, with the familiar DiAuto interface.

No jailbreak, dongle, account or authentication server required.

Install on the car, not the iPhone. Android 9+; Wi-Fi Direct is now available on Android 9 where the firmware supports it. Wireless uses the built-in car hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct or Existing Wi-Fi / Same LAN. Compatibility depends on the head unit, firmware and iOS version.

These projects focus on BYD cars. They may work on other brands, but other brands are unsupported and there are no plans to add support or fix brand-specific incompatibilities.

Install on your car

  1. While parked, download the APK and install it using the method supported by your head unit.
  2. Open DiPlay and allow the requested Bluetooth, Wi-Fi/location and microphone permissions.
  3. Turn on the car’s built-in hotspot (5 GHz if available). In Settings → Connection → Open connection setup, select Built-in car hotspot and save its exact name and password. Keep phone Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on, pair with the car, then tap Connect phone and accept the phone prompts.
  4. For wired use, connect a USB data cable and choose Connect with USB. Approve any USB, Trust or local VPN prompts.

ADB is not required for everyday use. APK installation options depend on the car. No manual MAC address entry.

New in 0.2.14

  • Searchable Settings grouped by Connection, Display, Audio, Navigation, Vehicle, Diagnostics and Advanced, with a reconnect reminder for deferred changes. Interface size adjusts DiPlay’s own text and controls without changing CarPlay.
  • Connection fixes for USB reads, Bluetooth transport queues and dual-stack built-in-hotspot discovery: IPv4 remains preferred, with scoped IPv6 publication where usable. Startup now follows the saved wired/wireless preference.
  • Siri microphone fallback when a head unit rejects the preferred recorder source, plus an optional assigned steering-wheel Siri key. This does not fix every microphone or Siri problem.
  • Video fallback for head units without window hardware acceleration, plus optional Smooth video (off by default) to pace frames. Smooth video adds display latency; picture adjustments are unavailable in both modes.
  • Recognizes the observed 1280×480 DiLink 3 cluster surface; map output still needs an in-car test. Album-art proportions and dashboard-song cleanup improved. Vehicle display support still depends on firmware.
  • Open the active CarPlay screen from a launcher, and select car-button images on head units without the usual document picker.
  • Scheduled day/night display mode and corrected rotation/split-screen sizing that accounts for system bars.
  • Experimental call echo cancellation and voice filtering are opt-in and off by default, with existing platform processing as the fallback. Call keys and dashboard output retain their firmware and ADB requirements.
  • Android 9+ remains the minimum. Firmware-specific connection failures, stuttering and call/microphone issues may remain. Test experimental vehicle options while parked.

Before you try it

A public preview, not an Apple-certified product. Authentication uses an experimental accessory identity recovered from public firmware; future acceptance is not guaranteed. Some head units still show stuttering or ignore icon-size changes. Start with 30 fps and HEVC off; try a lower resolution if needed.

Updates & signing

Install over the previous public release to retain settings; the public signing key is unchanged. Test builds use a separate app package.

Please send fresh reports from 0.2.14

1. Update to 0.2.14, reproduce the issue and note the failure time. 2. Open Settings → Diagnostics → Save diagnostic report. Android 10+ normally saves to Downloads/DiPlay; Android 9 uses a file picker. If storage or the picker is unavailable, follow the fallback confirmation and use View/Share. 3. Review the TXT and remove passwords and private details. Reports are not uploaded automatically. 4. Attach it to your existing issue: https://github.com/shihabal3amri/DiPlay/issues Or create a new one: https://github.com/shihabal3amri/DiPlay/issues/new/choose Include vehicle/head-unit model, DiLink/Android/firmware, iPhone/iOS, connection type, authentication backend (Local or USB/CH341), relevant settings, reproduction steps, expected/actual result and failure time.
